Last year’s album by Ólafur Arnalds really got me back into the world of hybrid classical.

Granted the album has some points that don’t work for me, I find that Arnalds’ more positive orchestral sections are falling just over the line that I would regard as cheesy (when the beat comes in midway through the title track I can’t help but cringe a little), but overall it is a beautifully created and mixed album.

The piano sounds are where Arnalds really excels, and they sound so beautifully real and organic that you could be sharing the piano stool with the man himself as he plays. If only..
